The Idaho Falls Area was opened in the spring of 2005.  Computers for Kids was overwhelmed by the response from this area.  Over 300 applications rolled into Computers for Kids office.  Rick Driever of INL donated 300f 19" and 21" monitors to the program.  The students and parents were so excited to have such a large monitor.  Most of the monitors were larger than the kids, and parents found that it would take two people to carry them out of the building.

Computers for Kids set up and tested monitors and computers for three days and then held classes for the next two days.  The Mayor showed up, along with Channel 3, Channel 8, The Idaho Falls Post Register and the Idaho Falls Police with their friendly police dog.

Computers for Kids spent the next day collecting and palletizing 28 pallets of surplus computers, monitors, printers, and miscellaneous items that the community donated.  Idaho Falls was a great success!  In 2006, CFK distributed 300 computers to area students, with the help of volunteers from Westmark Credit Union, The Idaho Falls Elks Lodge (who also donated the building), and Wells Fargo, our financial sponsor.

In 2007, CFK Joined with Idaho Army National Guard and handed out 240 computers to area students and 45 computers to local schools.  All this during a snow storm.  We had volunteers from the National Guard, Westmark Credit Union, and Idaho Elks Lodge.  This made distribution a breeze. Many teachers and Principals brought computers to their students who were unable to pick them up due to slick road conditions.

In 2008, CFK handed out 220 computers in the area with 130 going to local schools.  We also recycled 12 tons of surplus equipment in two days.  Another 352 students have applied from the Gear Up Idaho program which will be delivered by Christmas!  What a great present for the holidays.

We are in the process of forming a steering committee for the Idaho Falls area.  We are looking for community involved individuals to help inform school, media, businesses and individuals about our program.  Please e-mail us at cfk@cfkidaho.com.

Our mission is to offer Idaho students K – 14th grade the opportunity to enhance their education through the use of technology at home.

Sponsored by Wells Fargo
CFK is currently accepting applications from the Idaho Falls area for Sponsored computers courtesy of a grant provided by Wells Fargo. CFK is very grateful for Wells Fargo’s support.
